Position Summary:

Learn to Swim (LTS) Instructors report directly to the LTS Coordinator. Instructs and assists with Learn to Swim lessons. Ensures the safety of LTS participants by enforcing pool rules and maintaining supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work with all members of the Villa Park Aquatic Team to establish and maintain a positive TEAM environment maintaining participant safety in, on, and around the water.
Work with LTS Aides to teach effective swim lessons.
Effectively communicate and demonstrate positive professionalism with participants, patrons, Aquatic Team members, LTS Coordinator, Pool Manager, Program Supervisor, and Village Administration.
Communicate with the participant’s parents regarding their child’s progress as appropriate.
Complete report cards for swimmers at the end of each session.
Consistently enforce all pool rules and regulations on and off duty, work cooperatively in a team, and maintain crowd control in the event of an emergency when appropriate.
Participate in professional, mandatory, paid in-service training throughout the season.
Make a reasonable effort to independently solve problems, referring problems beyond your comfort to the LTS Coordinator.
Perform other pool duties as requested by the LTS Coordinator, Pool Manager, Program Supervisor, and Village Administration.

Qualifications:

Learn to Swim (LTS) Instructors must be a minimum 16 years of age or 15 years of age with a valid work permit.
Must have current WSI/BSI certification.

Position Title: Learn to Swim Coordinator - Seasonal Summer 2026

Hours and Schedule:

Monday-Thursday (June 9 - July 31) - 9:15 am – 12:00 pm;
Saturday (July 12 - August 2) - 9:15 am – 12:00 pm.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Program Supervisor, the Learn to Swim Coordinator performs management duties such as administrative and supervisory, directing the operation of the swim lesson program. The Learn to Swim Coordinator is responsible for the training, scheduling, and evaluating of the swimming lesson staff and the overall operations of public and private swim lessons. The Learn to Swim Coordinator should provide a safe environment in which the swimmers can fully develop their swimming potential in our Learn to Swim program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Act as facility manager during swim lessons and report any issues to the Program Supervisor
Report to lessons a minimum of 30 minutes prior to the start of swimming lessons and remain until all closing LTS procedures are completed and all staff have left the facility and grounds, or the Pool Manager arrives for the day to open the facility. Lock and secure the facility as part of closing procedures, if required.
Train, schedule, and supervise Learn to Swim Instructors/Aides and ensure that an adequate number of instructors/aides are assigned to teach each class level.
Must always be on deck during Learn to Swim program lessons to ensure that all participants are placed in groups that will enhance their learning experience and that all instructors and aides are keeping participants safe in, on, and around the water.
All accidents and injuries which occur to any employee or patron are to be documented in the appropriate form. This form must be left for the Pool Manager that day.
Supervise Learn to Swim staff in the performance of their duties and submit a written performance evaluation on each Learn to Swim staff at the end of the pool season.
Prepare report cards for instructors to fill out and ensure that all participants receive their report card at the conclusion of each session.
Maintains an inventory of equipment and supplies needed for the Learn to Swim program and is responsible for the care of the equipment.
Enforce all pool rules and regulations, supervise all LTS participants and spectators when necessary.

Lead Camp Counselor

Position Title: Lead Camp Counselor

Description:

The Lead Day Camp Counselor plays a key leadership role in delivering a safe, engaging, and enriching summer camp experience. Under the direction of the Day Camp Coordinator, the Lead Counselor oversees daily group operations, supports counselors, coordinates program activities, and ensures a positive environment where campers can learn, explore, and thrive. The program meets at the Villa Park Recreation Center.

Working Hours:

Required training will begin the week of May 27
20-35 hours a week during the summer.
Monday-Friday, June 1-August 7. (10 weeks). Hours vary weekly from 7:30 am-6:00 pm.

Examples of Duties:

Under the direction and supervision of the Camp Coordinator; the lead camp counselor is responsible for helping with the day-to-day planning, organizing, and implementing all aspects of the program.
Plan and administer diversified camp activities including nature lore, arts and crafts, games, sports, music, drama, and special events appropriate to the campers’ age group.
Participate in staff training and planning sessions and other staff meetings.
Able to be organized, yet flexible enough to meet the needs of the children, both mentally and physically.
Demonstrate a mature and professional attitude through dependability, punctuality and genuine awareness.
Conduct daily check-ins with the Camp Coordinator, sharing observations, concerns, and recommendations for program improvement.
Report and correct unsafe program conditions.
Administer medication and document all medical interactions in conjunction with the Camp Coordinator.
Motivate campers and encourage positive peer relationships.
Assist with setup and breakdown of activity areas, ensuring spaces are well-prepared and maintained.
Provide team leadership, must be able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Carry out additional supervisory duties and special assignments as directed by the Camp Coordinator or Program Supervisor.

Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age.
Camp Counselors should be outgoing, energetic, creative, organized, and have some experience working with children.
Counselors must become certified in CPR, First Aid, and AED.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to work effectively and support other members of the team.
Ability to maintain strong working relationships with children, parents, employees, and other relevant stakeholders.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to effectively apply written and oral English language skills, additional Spanish language skills is advantageous but not required.
Advanced organization skills, maintaining multiple projects and schedules.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing individually or in a group setting.
Ability to work under stressful situations.
Knowledge of various behavior patterns of children as well as basic concepts of development in children.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

Must possess:

Mobility to conduct activities that involve substantial walking, standing, and moderate sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, crawling, twisting, and reaching on a frequent basis.
Ability to work with and above shoulder height with a weight up to 20 pounds.
Ability to work with arms extended shoulder height with a weight of up to 20 pounds.

Description

This is unskilled and semi-skilled work in the cleaning and maintenance of the rooms, halls, common areas, fitness center, gymnasium, and staff workspaces within the Villa Park Recreation Center and Park and Recreation Facilities. The employee in this class performs routine manual custodial duties, which cover various tasks in the care and maintenance of these facilities. The employee in this class may perform the routine standard custodial duties with little direction and is permitted latitude in planning work methods. Maintains safety standards and ensures quality customer service at all times. Work is supervised by the Superintendent of Parks, Buildings, and Grounds, who provides instructions and inspections as needed.

Working Hours:

This is a part-time non-exempt position scheduled for up to 20 hours per week on Saturday and Sunday.
Additional hours are available as assigned.

Examples of Duties:

Picks up trash, vacuums rugs and carpet and cleans restrooms; cleans walls and windows; dusts and polishes furniture, artwork, décor; mops, vacuums, waxes and polishes floors; cleans fixtures, drinking fountains, doors, handles, countertops, vents, etc.; maintains an awareness of proper safety procedures and guidelines and applies these in performing daily activities and tasks; Determines that cleaning equipment is in proper working order and takes corrective measures if necessary; works through the supervisor to replace depleted cleaning supplies and/or equipment; may cut grass and shrubs; sweeps, cleans and shovels walks; cleans window wells; keeps outside premises in neat and orderly condition; readies rooms for various events, programs, receptions, and meetings; watches for evidence of damage, fire or illegal entry and reports such to proper supervisor; checks operation of heating and air conditioning equipment, power and lighting fixtures, plumbing and water fixtures, and alerts supervisor if servicing or repair work appears needed. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications:

Attainment of the knowledge equivalent of a high school education; and prior custodial work experience or a willingness to take a training program in custodial work; and the ability to pass a Village-administered, work-related, medical/physical examination; or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (if applicable):

Strong knowledge of cleaning and sanitation requirements at a public facility and common cleaning equipment, tools, materials, and supplies; strong knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions; skill in providing efficient customer service and communicating clearly and objectively both verbally and in writing; ability to prioritize work and exercise independent judgment and initiative; ability to carry out oral and written instructions; ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, center visitors, elected officials, and the general public; skill in the safe operation of handheld power tools and some knowledge of construction and maintenance materials.

Site Supervisor

Position Title: Site Supervisor

Description:

Reporting to the Program Supervisor, the Site Supervisor is responsible for site and/or program specific supervision at activities such as youth sports programs, adult sports programs, open gym, and adult general recreation programs.

Working Hours:

Examples of Duties:

Directly supervise all recreation activities within assigned program areas.
Prepare program sites for activities (tables, chairs, nets, equipment, etc.)
Effectively communicate with registered participants, program supervisor, co-workers, parents, spectators, and facility personnel. Relay information from program supervisors to participants and vice versa.
Assist referees or other officials with game activities.
Responsible for assisting in inventory of program equipment and supplies.
Be prepared to cancel program if circumstances call for such action (Bad weather, gym unavailable, etc.) and contact Program Supervisor.
Record pertinent information for recordkeeping and scorekeeping. Report any behavioral or disciplinary problems taking place at program site in writing and orally.
Report any possible maintenance problems at program site in writing and orally.
Be prepared to notify authorities (Police, Fire, etc.) when needed.
Be prepared to administer CPR/First Aid as needed.
Leave program site in better condition than how it was found.
Utilize and empower participants to use non-violent, non-confrontational methods to cool disputes among fans, coaches, and participants.
Make a reasonable effort to independently solve problems, referring problems beyond your comfort to the registration staff, Program Supervisors, or Director of Parks & Recreation.
Completes other duties within the scope and purpose of this position.
