Winter Home Safety

Have you changed the batteries in your smoke detectors or carbon monoxide detectors lately? If you haven't, it may be time to change them.

Most fatal fires occur at night and working detectors provide home occupants with an early warning in the event of such.

Per State of Illinois law (425 ILCS 60) every single family home must have a working smoke detector installed on each floor of the home, including the basement.Per State of Illinois law (425 ILCS 135) every dwelling unit shall be equipped with at least one UL approved (CO) detector in operating condition within 15 ft. of every room used for sleeping purposes.

Call the Villa Park Fire Dept. at (630) 833-5350 if you are unsure about the placement of your smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector or need help installing.

New Illinois Prairie Path Street Crossing Signs

Safely cross the Illinois Prairie Path at Ardmore Ave. with the new flashing crossing beacons. They were installed the first week of december and have since provided walkers, joggers, runners and bikers a safer experience while out on the trail.

Pedestrians can press the button located underneath the arrow sign which activates the flashing lights that will warn drivers to slow down and stop. There is one beacon located on each side of the street.

There will be additional crossing beacons installed at the crossing of the Illinois Prairie Path and Villa Ave in the coming weeks.
