Summer Summary

VILLA PARK – As fall approaches, some may be struggling to say goodbye to summer. After all, Villa Park's summer was jam packed with exciting events. Here's a look back at just a few of the highlights in case you missed them.

Senator Dick Durbin visits Villa Park

Sen. Durbin visits Station 81

VILLA PARK – U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) visited Villa Park Fire Department Aug. 7 where he saw the Department’s new fire truck funded by a $432,000 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) awarded last year. Durbin met with Villa Park Mayor Deborah Bullwinkel and Fire Chief Ron Rakosnik to discuss the benefits of the AFG program and the new fire engine, which will begin use in the coming weeks.

“We must ensure our nation’s firefighters and first-responders are equipped with the best, most up-to-date equipment to do their jobs effectively,” Durbin said. “The AFG program helps ensure that when fires or other emergencies occur in our communities, firefighters have access to the resources necessary to protect them and protect us. This new, up-to-date fire engine will be a great asset to the Villa Park Fire Department and the surrounding community.”

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin visited Villa Park Fire Station 81 Aug. 7, 2015.

"The Village of Villa Park is honored to be the recipient of a generous grant from FEMA to help us cover the costs associated with the purchase of a new fire engine,” Villa Park Village President Deborah Bullwinkel said. “It's been over 25 years since we replaced our fire engine, and funds for a vehicle purchase of this magnitude doesn't come easily.  We are extremely grateful to U.S. Senator Dick Durbin and Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth for their ongoing support of the Village of Villa Park and the needs of our first responders, as well as helping us ensure the continued safety of our residents."

“Villa Park Fire Department was honored to be the recipient of the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant.  This grant allowed us to purchase a much needed National Fire Protection Association compliant Fire Engine to replace a 26 year old fire engine from our aging fleet,” Villa Park Fire Chief Ron Rakosnik said. “The new fire engine will allow our firefighters to respond to emergencies in a safer manner, work at night with better visibility and respond with a very reliable piece of emergency equipment.  We thank Senator Dick Durbin and Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth for their continued support for first responders as well as FEMA for this much appreciated federal grant.”

National Night Out 2015

VILLA PARK – The Villa Park police department and the Village of Villa Park celebrated the 32nd annual National Night Out Aug. 4 at the Iowa Community Center.

National Night Out is recognized all over the United States on the first Tuesday of August every year. Villa Park celebrated with life size games like Jenga and Kerplunk, music, food, and many more activities for all ages.

Villa Park's very own Police Canine Inoe was retired that same night after being with the Villa Park Police Department since November 2007. Inoe made an appearance and was able to wag his tail goodbye to the community.

National Night Out builds a stronger relationship between our community and the Police Department.

Retired Villa Park Police Canine Inoe and Officer Bryan Hruby

Happy Retirement, Inoe!

VILLA PARK – After nearly eight years of dedicated service to Villa Park, Police Canine Inoe retired Aug. 4, 2015.

Inoe began his career at the Village of Villa Park when he was selected as a Canine for the Villa Park Police Department in November 2007. Inoe was partnered with Officer Bryan Hruby at Northern Michigan K-9 Training, Inc. in Harrison, Mich. for four weeks of intensive canine training and after returning to Villa Park, Officer Hruby and Inoe spent the next several months completing the state required training and testing to successfully achieve his  required Yearly Illinois State Certification.

Inoe assisted in many arrests by locating narcotics. As a cross-trained dual purpose narcotics detection canine, Inoe was responsible for assisting in search warrants, vehicle sniffs and residential sniffs locating more than three quarters of a million dollars in drug money located in a hidden trap and his largest single find of five pounds of marijuana in one traffic stop.

Inoe was credited for saving a young girl’s life while assisting a neighboring town. He tracked during subzero February temperatures and located the missing girl who was lost and had no idea where she was or how to get to safety.

In addition to his work on the street, Inoe was a regular guest in schools, local events and area canine demonstrations where his easy manner and friendliness was appreciated by the citizens of Villa Park.

Inoe retired from the Villa Park Police Department on Aug. 4, 2015.
