Fire hose

Villa Park Fire Open House

The annual Villa Park Fire Open House had another successful year with many families stopping by to learn about fire safety, fire equipment and a chance to meet Sparky the Fire Dog! Whether it was testing out the fire hose, watching the puppet shows and live fire demonstration or practicing a fire escape, there were plenty of opportunities for an interactive learning experience. It was a great end to Fire Prevention Week!

Daylight Savings Time

Get ready to set your clocks back an hour on Sunday, November 4th as Daylight Savings Time comes to an end. While we may gain an extra hour of sleep, it will start the wintry days of the sun setting a little earlier than we may like.

While most smartphones will have the time auto-change when Daylight Savings Time ends at 2:00 a.m., be sure to check all other clocks and devices so you don't show up late on Monday morning.

Villa Park ECC shares with others, seeks commissioners

One of the 2018 goals of the Environmental Concerns Commission is to help District 45 schools become more environmentally beneficial.

The commission was able to support North Elementary and Jefferson Middle schools in this effort through its Clean Your Locker program (Jackson Middle School already has a strong program). North and Jefferson students, staff and families were encouraged to use upcycled cardboard boxes, provided by Villa Park's Jewel store, to collect recyclable items as the 2017-18 school year ended.

This was proven to be successful as hundreds of school supplies were collected. All supplies were sorted and delivered to a preschool, the Villa Park and Wheaton libraries, SCARCE and Breakthrough, a nonprofit in East Garfield Park.

The ECC also offers writing utensil recycling with a drop box offered at Public Works.

Does this sound like something you would like to do? The ECC is in need of commissioners. It meets at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month on the second floor of Villa Park's Village Hall, 20 S. Ardmore Ave.

For more information or to be a part of the commission, contact ECC Chairwoman Jes Spivak at or visit to download an application and drop it off at Village Hall or mail it to 20 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, IL 60181.

Storm Inlet

Please Keep Storm Inlets Clear of Debris

Spring is here, which means warmer weather and rainfall. Please be sure to keep storm inlets free of clogs during the wet season to help reduce flooded streets,

Clogged inlets prevent storm water from entering the sewers, which causes standing water in the streets and potentially ice if temperatures reach freezing.

Help your community by keeping storm inlets clear of debris!
