Villa Park Police support Law Enforcement Torch Run

Villa Park Police and Special Olympics supporters participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run on June 7, 2015.

VILLA PARK - Special Olympics supporters joined Villa Park Police on the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run as it passed through Villa Park on June 7.

During the intrastate relay, 3,000 officers representing every branch of law enforcement across the state from local police officers to FBI agents carry the Flame of Hope nearly 1,500 miles along 23 different routes to the Opening Ceremonies of the Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games in Normal. The Torch Run began in 1986 to raise money and gain awareness for the athletes who participate in Special Olympics Illinois.

The Torch Run began at the DuPage County Courthouse in Wheaton on June 7 and continued through Wheaton, Winfield, West Chicago, Warrenville, Naperville, Woodridge, Westmont, Oakbrook, Lombard, Villa Park, Elmhurst, Addison, and Bloomingdale.

Villa Park’s leg of the Torch Run started at the Gazebo on Ardmore Avenue and Park Boulevard.  So far this year, Villa Park Police have raised more than 5,000 dollars for Special Olympics Illinois through fundraising events including, a cookout and participation in the 13th annual Cop on a Rooftop event at Dunkin' Donuts.

Now that summer is upon us, please remember that weeds and grasses may not exceed six (6) inches in height. Please keep sidewalks clear from overgrown vegetation of bushes and other plants so that residents and visitors to the Village may travel the public way.
Also, as the weather grows hotter please remember to keep all trash cans covered and that items placed at the curb for removal may only be placed out for pick up one day prior to the scheduled date.
