Celebrate 8 & 28

Villa Park Showcase: 8 Celebrate 28

On behalf of the Village of Villa Park, we would like to thank all our residents, performers, and local businesses who came out to Celebrate Money Magazine naming Villa Park the 8th best place to raise a family and 28th best place to live in America. We could not have done it without you.

Police Department Open House

The Villa Park Police Department will be hosting an open house event on Saturday, May 19, 2018, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The open house will begin with a silent parade from the intersection of Ardmore and Park, heading northbound on Ardmore to the Police Department. In addition to tours of the police station, various safety booths and presentations will be available.

Protect My Town

The DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference (DMMC) is launching a new statewide campaign – Protect My Town – aimed at activating Illinois residents to voice their opposition to proposed state cuts to the Local Government Distributive Fund (LGDF) dollars.

As part of this effort, the DMMC has created a website – www.ProtectMyTown.us– along with two educational videos explaining what the loss of this critical revenue means for our residents.

The new website and social media opportunities enable Illinoisans to directly engage their state legislators and Governor Rauner. The website explains why the state should resist attempts to use LGDF dollars to fill state budget gaps, which shifts the tax burden on to local communities and taxpayers.

Flag Etiquette

With the the oncoming Memorial Day weekend and summer festivities, many citizens like to show their patriotism by flying their American flag. According to http://usflag.org, there is a Flag Code which allows us to follow the proper traditions and specific instructions on how not to use the flag.

When the flag is too worn to fly, the VFW Post 2801 in Villa Park will properly and respectfully dispose of your flag. They are open Monday-Friday 3 p.m.-10 p.m., Saturday noon-10 p.m., and Sunday noon- 5 p.m.

No to Open Flames/Burning

Open burning is prohibited in Villa Park, except with the express written permission of the fire code official or his designee.

For details, see the 2009 International Fire Code (IFC), section 307 (Open Burning, Recreational Fires, and Outdoor Fireplaces) as amended and adopted by reference in Section 7-1201 of the Village of Villa Park Municipal Code.

Here are the highlights:

Fire pits, fire rings, or other fires on the ground are prohibited.

Exceptions include recreational fires for cooking food on grills, barbecues, kettles, smokers, and similar appliances.

The burning of seasoned firewood in an approved outdoor fireplace is allowed as long as:
  • The wood used is cut into logs and not freshly cut or "green."
  • The appliance used has a secure, suitable cover with suitable screening in place on its side
  • Portable outdoor fireplaces are used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and are not operated within 15 feet of a structure or combustible material.
  • A portable fire extinguisher or other approved extinguishing agents such as sand, dirt, or water in sufficient quantity are available for immediate use.
  • The fire is not permitted to create excessive flames, flying embers, or smoke.
The fire code official or his designee may prohibit the use of an outdoor fireplace if the products of combustion create or add to a hazardous or objectionable situation, or if a neighbor calls and complains that the smoke emissions create a hazard for them.

rain barrel

Rain Barrel Reimbursement Program

Take advantage of seasonal rainfall with the installation and use of a rain barrel. Rain barrels are an efficient and low-cost way of capturing rainwater for later use. The conserved water can be used to water plants, wash cars and even to bathe pets.

Previously, the Village’s Public Works Department hosted rain barrels available for purchase, but now residents have the option to choose their own that fits their style and price-range. To start this process, fill out an application in person at the Public Works Facility or online at www.invillapark.com. For more information, contact Public Works at (630) 834-8505.

Rx Prescription Box at The Villa Park Police Department

The Villa Park Police Department has teamed up with the DuPage County Health Department to offer residents a safe and easy way to drop off unwanted medications.

The program is for unused prescriptions and expired medicines generated by residents. Disposing of prescription and over-the-counter drugs down a drain can contaminate public water supplies and waterways. Removing expired and unused drugs from our homes reduces accidental ingestion by children and reduces teen prescription drug abuse.

The Villa Park Police Department has a safe drop off location for recycling prescription drugs located in their lobby.

The Police Department Lobby hours:
M-F 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
Sat. 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Sun & Holidays Closed

Please Keep Storm Inlets Clear of Debris

Spring is here, which means warmer weather and rainfall. Please be sure to keep storm inlets free of clogs during the wet season to help reduce flooded streets.

Clogged inlets prevent stormwater from entering the sewers, which causes standing water in the streets and potentially ice if temperatures reach freezing.

Help your community by keeping storm inlets clear of debris!
