UPDATE: St. Charles Road Bridge Weight Restriction

Following notice from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) that the rating of the St. Charles Road Bridge over Salt Creek has been lowered, a weight restriction of 15 tons max has taken effect. The new limit does not restrict ambulances from using the bridge; however, it does impact PACE Bus's Route 313 through Villa Park, garbage trucks, fire trucks, school buses and other large vehicles.

On Monday, August 14th, the Village Board approved proceeding with a temporary repair of the bridge which will assist maintaining the 15 ton weight limit until the bridge is reconstructed. There will be lane reconfigurations taking place the week of September 5th to allow for emergency work on the bridge. Advanced warning changeable message boards will be installed the week of August 28th for this lane reconfiguration that is estimated to be in effect for approximately two months.

For questions on the PACE Bus Route, contact Christine Rose, Community Relations Representative at PACE, at (847) 863-6108. For questions on construction and maintenance of the bridge or other concerns related to this matter, contact the Village's Public Works Department at (630) 834-8505.

Village Introduces New Rain Barrel Program

Rain Barrel

Take advantage of seasonal rainfall with the installation and use of a rain barrel. Rain barrels are an efficient and low-cost way of capturing rainwater for later use. The conserved water can be used to water plants, wash cars and even to bathe pets.

At the June 12th Board Meeting, Village Officials approved the adoption of a new grant-based rain barrel program where residents can purchase a rain barrel from a store of their choosing, and the Village will partially reimburse the cost.

Previously, the Village’s Public Works Department hosted rain barrels available for purchase, but now residents have the option to choose their own that fits their style and price-range. To start this process, fill out an application in person at the Public Works Facility or online here. For more information, contact Public Works at (630) 834-8505.

Share Your Ideas for Walking and Biking in Villa Park

The Village of Villa Park is partnering with Active Transportation Alliance to develop a Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. The plan will focus on improving connections to the Illinois Prairie Path, Great Western Trail, Salt Creek Trail and other local destinations, fill in gaps in the sidewalk network and make intersections safer for people traveling on foot or by bike.

Now through October, we’re soliciting ideas from the community that will help inform and plan recommendations and priorities. There are several ways to participate:

  • Online Survey:
  • Online Interactive Map:
  • Paper Survey: Look for a copy in your water bill or find it at Village Hall, Park District buildings, Sunday Night Car Shows, Movies in the Park, Brewfest, local stores and the Metra Station.
  • Community Workshop: Save the date for Thursday, October 12th, 6:00 p.m. at Iowa Community Center (338 N Iowa Ave) to learn more about the plan and brainstorm ideas with your neighbors.
