Join the community at the Ardmore Business District (Ardmore Ave and Park Blvd) on Friday, June 16th and Saturday, June 17th for the annual Summerfest. The two-day festival is taking place from 6:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m. on Friday and 11:00 a.m.-10:30 p.m. on Saturday. The event will feature the Friday Night Car Show, local food vendors, local bands, children's activities, an arts & crafts fair, a business fair and more. Homeowners Presented with Historical Preservation Awards at May 22 Board Meeting
|
|
|
|
At the May 22nd Board Meeting, three homeowners and one commercial building owner were presented with plaques for the Historical Preservation Awards by the Historical Preservation Commission.
A Historical Preservation award was issued to Dan Kufner for his 1917 Arts and Crafts Bungalow style home that is named the Eigelberner House after its first owner. It is located on South Summit Avenue.
Kevin and Mariene Wolter received a Historical Preservation Award for their two-story 1927 English Tudor style house that is named the Stegath House after its first owner. It is located on South Cornell Avenue.
Michael and Tracy Styke received a Historic Preservation Award for their 1915 Sears Catalog Osborn style home. It is located on South Princeton Avenue.
Raymond and Tammy Hensley received a Historic Landmark Award for their 1923 Commercial Building on Park Boulevard.

Register for Travel Teens Summer Camp - Tuesday, June 13, 2017

The Village's Parks & Recreation Department is now offering Travel Teens Summer Camp for teen in grades 6-9. Drop off for all weekly trips will take place at North Terrace Park at 9:00 a.m. and pick up will take place at 4:00 p.m. at varying locations. Bring a sack lunch unless otherwise indicated, and pack a bathing suit, towel and sunscreen for each trip. The registration deadline is Tuesday, June 13th. S.A.L.T. Hosts Quarterly Meeting - Wednesday, June 14, 2017
|
|
|
|
Join Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.) for their quarterly community meeting. The meeting will be held at the Wildwood Community Center (320 East Wildwood Avenue) on Wednesday, June 14th, 2017. There will be a reception beginning at 10:30 a.m., which will include coffee, pastries and donuts. At 11:00 a.m., there will be a presentation by Senior Program Assistant, Sue Camasta. Following the meeting, the Villa Park Senior Concerns Commission will sponsor a luncheon for all S.A.L.T. members and guests.

The Village's first photo contest has come to a close, and we are incredibly impressed with the talent and creativity of Villa Park residents. We are also very grateful for the responsiveness, as we received a total of 75 photos.
Congratulations to our first place winner, Susan D'Alessandro for her iris photo (top). Also, congratulations to our second place winner Lauren Tripi for her rose photo (middle) and our third place winner Shelly Bruschuk Bychowski for her lilac photo (bottom).

Village Collecting Submissions for June Photo Contest
|
|
|
|
Show us your creativity with the Village of Villa Park's new monthly photo contest! The theme for June is "Wildlife Around Town;" this could be anything from the smallest insect to a full-grown deer, as long as it’s in Villa Park. Photos can be submitted by commenting, messaging or tagging us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter or by email to Kylie Cerk, Public Information Officer.
First, second and third place winners will be chosen, and the prize (first place only) will be having your photo promoted through the Village’s social media channels, having your photo in the Village’s homepage slideshow on the website and having your photo become part of the Village’s photo archive. There is no limit to how many photos one person can submit, but only one photo per person can qualify for first, second or third place. All photos submitted will be placed in a public photo album on Facebook; if you would like your photo(s) to remain private, make note of so when submitting.
The deadline for June submissions is the end of the day on Wednesday, July 5, 2017.
The rules for participating are as follows: - The photo must be of something in Villa Park
- The photographer must be from Villa Park
- Submissions of obscene content are not allowed

Garden Club of Villa Park Hosts Herbal Gourmet Lecture - Monday, June 12, 2017

|
|
The Garden Club of Villa Park is sponsoring a series of informational lectures at the Villa Park Library this growing season.
Experienced and beginner gardeners will learn techniques and recipes. Each lecture will include demonstrations and a question period. Participants will be given a discount on Garden Club membership.
All the programs begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Villa Park Library (305 Ardmore Ave) and are free to the public. The next lecture is titled "Herbal Gourmet" and is taking place on Monday, June 12th . Registration is recommended by calling the library at (630) 834-1164.

Park Art Center Features Paul Elledge - Tuesday, June 13, 2017

|
Renowned photographer Paul Elledge's "iPhone Once A Day, Everyday" series will be on display at the Park Art Center (9 East Park Blvd) from May 12th through July 1st with the Opening Reception on Friday, May 12th from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m.-5:00 pm. All events are free and open to the public.
The Park Art Center is also featuring Paul Elledge with an Artist Talk on Tuesday, June 13th at 7:00 p.m. EventBrite registration is required, and the talk will also be live on Facebook. The interview is available for viewing as well as questions and answers. You may also choose to see the video later via the Park Art Center Facebook.

Calvary United Methodist Church Dinner - Thursday, June 15, 2017

|
|
Calvary United Methodist Church will host its monthly “Third Thursday Community Meal with Speaker” on June 15th.
Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. followed by a guest speaker. Calvary UMC is located at 136 East Highland in Villa Park, the northwest corner of Highland and Summit. The public is welcome and there is no charge for dinner.

Electronics Recycling - Saturday, June 17, 2017
|
|
|
|
In Illinois, it is illegal for electronic devices to be disposed of in a landfill, so the Village of Villa Park partnered with Roy Strom to host electronics recycling events on the third Saturday of every month from 9:00 a.m.-noon at the Public Works Garage (20 W. Home Ave).
With spring cleaning happening, please remember that old electronics cannot go out to the curb as part of regular garbage pickup.
This is a free service for Villa Park residents only, and a photo ID is required to drop off electronics. Also, only one TV may be dropped off per visit. Read more about Villa Park’s electronic waste program here.

VFW Friday Night Fish Frys & Tactical Taco Thursdays

Celebrate the end of the week with the Villa Park VFW Post 2801 (39 E. Saint Charles Rd) at their weekly Tactical Taco Thursdays and Friday Fish Frys.
The fish fry is every Friday from 5:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. The VFW serves up fried fish, shrimp, Italian Beef, hot dogs and freshly made chips & fries.
Tactical Taco Thursday is every Thursday from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. You can practice your shooting skills while enjoying tacos priced at $2.00 each or three for $5.00.

VFW Hosts 4th of July Parade

On Tuesday, July 4th, the Villa Park VFW Post 2801 will be hosting their annual 4th of July Parade.
The event starts at noon, stepping off from Ardmore Avenue and Central Boulevard heading west on Central and concluding at Summit Avenue and Park Boulevard.

Kiwanis Concerts in the Park - Starting Wednesday July 5, 2017

Bring your blanket, lawn chairs and appetite to the Kiwanis Summer Concerts. Great family entertainment and good eats will make a fun night at the Ruggard Gazebo on the Prairie Path. The concession stand opens at 6:00 p.m. selling hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, popcorn, soda and more. Concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. See the schedule below:

Fire Department Receives Federal Grant
|
|
|
|
The Villa Park Fire Department has been awarded a federal grant by the Department of Homeland Security.
Chief Ron Rakosnik states the following: "We thank Senators Durbin and Duckworth for their support of first responders, as well as FEMA, for this much appreciated federal grant.”

Village Says Farewell to Chief Bob Pavelchik
|

On Friday, May 19th, the Village said farewell to Villa Park Police Chief Bob Pavelchik as he retired and started a new chapter.
Chief Bob has been with us for five years and has made quite the positive impact on the department and the Village as a whole. We thank Chief Bob for his service and wish him the best of luck on his future endeavors.
