Fighting 2020 Census Rumors

If you have a question about something not addressed here or see false information about the 2020 Census or the U.S. Census Bureau, please contact rumors@census.gov.

Does the 2020 Census ask about citizenship status?
No. The 2020 Census does not ask weather you or anyone in your home is a U.S. citizen.

Are non-citizens counted in the census?
Yes. Everyone counts. The 2020 Census counts everyone living in the country, including non-citizens. Learn more about who should be counted when you complete the 2020 Census.

Can my answers be shared with law enforcement or used against me?
No. The law prevents the Census Bureau from sharing your information with law enforcement. Your answers are only used to impact your eligibility for government benefits. Your answers are only used to create statistics about our country. The Census Bureau is bound by Title 13 of the U.S. Code to protect your personal information and keep it strictly confidential.

The week of March 15, homes will begin recieving information on how to fill out the 2020 Census. Shape your future and the future of Villa Park by being counted.

Public health officials are reminded to follow everyday preventative measures:

  • Voluntary Home Isolation when sick
  • Respiratory Etiquette (cover coughs & sneezes)
  • Hand Hygiene
  • Routinely clean frequently touched surfaces and objects

Scam of the Week

Scam of the Week: Credit Card Phishing Scam
Here’s how it works: The email appears to come from a well-known credit card companies, either American Express or Chase. The email includes a list of credit card transactions, and you’re asked to confirm or deny whether the transactions are valid.

If you click the “No, I do not recognize the transactions” link, you’re brought to a fake login page that looks very similar to the credit card company’s actual login page.

Don’t fall for this trick! If you submit your login details, your information is immediately sent to the scammers and your account and your identity will be at risk.
