Objective

To help drainage conditions on Monterey Avenue between Madison Street and Washington Boulevard, and to help stormwater quality by treating runoff from 5.5 acres of suburban single-family home area directly tributary to Sugar Creek.

Description

This project consists of the installation of 12 bio-retention systems, each approximately 37 feet long by 6 feet wide, within the existing drainage ditch area on South Monterey Avenue between Washington Boulevard and Madison Street in the Village of Villa Park.

Justification

Monterey Avenue between Madison Street and Washington Boulevard has ditch drainage. The ditch is directly tributary to Sugar Creek. The Village of Villa Park obtained grant funding from IEPA through Illinois Green Infrastructure Grant (IGIG) to construct a series of bio-retentions in the drainage ditch to improve the quality of stormwater runoff. Some ditch modifications will be made to improve stormwater conveyance to help with drainage issues as well.
