Did you know that certain improvements to your home might qualify for a reduction in the assessed value of the new construction, depending on the type and scope of the improvement? According to the York Township Assessor's Office, a Home Improvement Exemption allows up to a maximum $25,000 reduction in the assessed value of an owner-occupied, single-family residential property. This is an automatic exemption requiring no application.
Generally speaking, items normally considered usual and customary maintenance or upkeep do not qualify for a Home Improvement Exemption; nor do totally new single-family residences.
Should you have any questions regarding the assessment process and / or available exemptions, please call or stop by the York Township Assessor's Office located at 1502 South Meyers Road, Lombard. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
More information is also available on the York Township Assessor's Office website.
If your property is located north of Route 64 (North Avenue) you will need to contact the Addison Township Offices located at 401 North Addison, Addison, IL 60101. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
