Electronic Waste Banned From Illinois
As of January 1, 2012, Illinois law prohibits electronic devices from being collected for disposal in Illinois landfills. Businesses and residents will no longer be able to set out certain electronic components for disposal, and waste haulers will be prohibited from collecting such items for final disposal in a landfill.
The Right Way
The Village of Villa Park is coordinating with LRS, the Village's waste hauler, to assist the Village and ensure residents and local businesses have an alternate disposal option. To meet the objective the Village has started E-Waste "the right way" a program designed to provide a convenient, "no-cost", environmentally responsible solution for the community.
The drop-off site is open on the third Saturday of every month, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Public Works Garage, located at 20 W. Home Avenue This free service is only available to Villa Park residents. Please have your ID ready. Also, note only one TV may be dropped off per visit.
Examples of E-waste include the following:
Computers | Computer Monitors | Televisions | Printers | Keyboards | Fax Machines | VCR’S | Portable Digital Music Players | DVD Player | Video Game Consoles | Computer Mouse | Scanners | Digital Converter Boxes | Cable Receivers | Satellite Receivers | DVD Recorders | Small-Scale Servers
