The Union Pacific Railroad has informed the Village of Villa Park that the North Villa Avenue railroad grade crossing will undergo a full reconstruction and interconnection improvement. This improvement will include the installation of new rails on all three (3) tracks and an interconnection with crossings to the west and east and a full vehicle crossing improvement.

The last crossing improvement took place in 1998. This crossing is in need of upgrades since the crossing is extremely rough for vehicle traffic. The start of the improvement will begin on June 6, 2011 and take approximately 14 days to complete. All north and southbound Villa Avenue traffic will be detoured to Addison Road to the west and Route 83 to the east. All local traffic will still have access to North Villa Avenue but will not have access to the railroad crossing.
