General Project Information
The Village of Villa Park's Ardmore Bridge Rehabilitation Project consists of the rehabilitation of the bridge structure carrying North Ardmore Avenue over the Canadian National Railroad (formerly the Illinois Central Railroad). The project includes the repair or replacement of deteriorated bridge columns, support panels, and the bridge deck. The project is being funded in part by the Federal Highway Bridge Program (HBP), with the Village receiving Federal funding for approximately 80% of design and construction costs. The current estimate of construction cost for the project is approximately $3.5 million.
The Ardmore Bridge Rehabilitation Project has been underway for several years, with the Village working diligently to bring the project to fruition. The bridge has been closed to all vehicular traffic since August 25, 2009, after it was determined as a result of inspections conducted by structural engineers and oversight by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) that it was no longer prudent to allow its use. Prior to its full closure in 2009, the bridge had also been under an expanded weight limit restriction since August of 2007, when the weight limit was reduced to ten (10) tons.
The project is being designed by engineering consultant V3 Companies of Illinois, Ltd., and is being overseen by the Village of Villa Park Public Works Department. All questions and comments regarding this project should be directed to the Village of Villa Park Public Works Department at (630)-834-8505. Village staff will attempt to keep the public informed of project progress and information. We thank the businesses, residents and commuters of Villa Park for their patience as we work to bring this project to fruition. If you have any questions or would like additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us at the number listed, or send an e-mail to publicworks@invillapark.com.
