General Program Information
The Village of Villa Park provides advice and assistance to residents and property owners for areas on private property that have drainage problems. The program also allows for the sharing of costs of the construction of a proposed driange solution on a fifty-fifty basis between the Village and the property owner(s).
The most typical solution implemented as a part of the drainage assistance program is the installation of a private-property storm sewer system. Such a system consists of one or more drinas installed in problem areas, with a storm pipe connecting them to the public storm sewer. Unfortunately, this solution cannot be implemented in areas that do not have separate storm sewers, as it is illegal to make a stormwater connection into a combined sewer. There may, however, be other solutions which can still be implemented in combined sewer areas, such as regrading, dry well or french drain construction, relocation of downspouts and sump pump outlets, etc. These potential alternatives can also be investigated as a part of the drainage assistance program.
In cases where a private-property storm sewer system can be installed, it may also be possible to install such a system on several adjoining properties, thereby solving multiple drainage issues as a part of a single construction project. This method can also allow multiple residents to share the fifty-percent portion, making the project more affordable for each individual property owner.
Residents who are interested in the program can either contact the Public Works Department at (630) 834-8505 to obtain more information, or can download the drainage program packet available below. The packet contains a "Drainage Complaint Investigation Form" which should be filled out with as much information as possible and submitted to the Village of Villa Park with the required $250.00 deposit. This deposit will be applied towards the costs of any future drainage solution.
Residents should also be aware that, due to the high volume of drainage issues experienced by residents in recent months, we expect a substantial number of residents seeking assistance in the near future. Individual cases are evaluated and prioritized based on the severity and extent of the problem, as well as the estimated cost to implement a solution. Projects are then completed based on their priority and the availability of funding. We ask for residents' patience and understanding as we balance the needs of all those on the program, and work to find acceptable solutions for everyone.
