free "Friends and Family" cpr class
saturday, june 2 — 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
villa park iowa community center, 338 n. iowa
What would you do...?
- If a heart attack happened to a loved one or a close friend? Would you know how to perform life saving CPR, which can double a victim's chance of survival?
- If your child started to choke and stopped breathing? Would you know how to clear the airway and start CPR?
- If your father was suddenly confused, had trouble speaking or had a sudden, severe headache with no known cause? Would you know that these could be signs of a stroke?
Did you know...?
- 75-80% of all out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen at home, so being trained to perform CPR can mean the difference between life and death.
- Approximately 95% of sudden cardiac arrest victims die before reaching the hospital.
- Brain death starts to occur 4 – 6 minutes after someone experiences cardiac arrest if CPR is not started during those first crucial minutes.
The majority of Americans don't know...
If you answered "no" to any of the above questions, you're not alone. The vast majority of Americans don't know how to perform CPR or know the signs of a stroke or heart attack. But you will know after you attend Family and Friends CPR on June 2!
Sign up today for this FREE American Heart Assn. class being taught by Villa Park Fire Department Paramedics. Anyone over the age of 11 can register.
Registration is required so call (630) 833-5350 to reserve your seat today!
PLEASE NOTE: This class will not fulfill CPR/AED certification requirements

watermain flushing operations
The Village of Villa Park will be performing its semi-annual watermain flushing operation in May. This is a necessary maintenance procedure to clear the mains of rust deposits and check fire hydrants for proper operation.
Flushing will be performed on May 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.. We ask that you please refrain from doing laundry during the above indicated times as rust stains could damage clothing.
We regret any inconvenience this may cause you, and thank you in advance for your patience. If you have any questions please contact the Public Works Department at (630) 834-8505.

| Do you dig? Call julie at 8-1-1 |
|
Planning a home improvement job? Planting a tree? Installing a fence or deck? WAIT! Here's what you need to know first:
Whether you are planning to do it yourself or hire a professional, smart digging means calling 811 before each job. Homeowners often make risky assumptions about whether or not they should get their utility lines marked, but every digging job requires a call – even small projects like planting trees and shrubs.
Damage to underground utility lines is a major problem in the United States. Incidents caused by unsafe digging practices can compromise community safety and disconnect people from critical services.
Call JULIE first. (Joint Underground Locating Information for Excavators)
Find out how it works. For more information, please visit http://call811.com or JULIE Illinois One-Call System at http://www.illinois1call.com.

As of January 1, 2012, Illinois law prohibits electronic devices from being collected for disposal in Illinois landfills. Businesses and residents will no longer be able to set out certain electronic components for disposal, and waste haulers will be prohibited from collecting such items for final disposal in a landfill.
The Village of Villa Park is coordinating with Roy Strom the Village's, waste hauler, to assist the Village and ensure residents and local businesses have an alternate disposal option. To meet the objective the Village is starting E-Waste "the right way" a program designed to provide a convenient, "no cost", environmentally responsible solution for the community. A registered IEPA collector, recycler and refurbisher of electronic waste will properly process program accepted electronics.
The Village's alternative disposal solution, E-Waste "the right way" will accept state landfill banned electronic items, and the additional business office, household, and entertainment electronics noted in the captioned area that are generated by residents and local businesses, at no cost.
The Village's "FREE" drop off site for program accepted electronic components (listed) is conveniently located 200 feet west of Village Hall on the north side of Home Avenue.

| DuComm To Begin Using Smart911 Technology |
|
The Villa Park Police Department, in conjunction with DuPage Public Safety Communications (DuComm), is pleased to announce a potentially life-saving service that will soon be ready for use by the public. The implementation of this service has the potential to save lives by helping to improve 9-1-1 response to emergency calls made from cellular telephones.
This new technology, known as Smart911, requires citizens to voluntarily register their cellular phone numbers via the Smart911 web site. Once citizens sign up, any 9-1-1 call they make from their registered cellular device will include important personal information that goes directly to the dispatcher. The dispatcher in turn will pass on pertinent information directly to first responders. Citizens will provide the information about themselves and their families when they register. Such information could include medical conditions and alerts, children's photographs, home and work addresses of mobile phone callers, disabilities or other rescue-related information, locations for a child's room in the home, and any other useful information designed to assist emergency responders and to help locate the caller. Emergency access to information such as this can help 9-1-1 operators and first responders address issues faster and more efficiently.
The emergency information collected is kept in a secure facility and only made available to our 9-1-1 operators and first responders when the cellular device is used to call a 9-1-1 center equipped with the Smart911 technology. Chief John Heidelmeier strongly encourages all citizens living or working within Villa Park to register for this free service. We would also like to enlist your assistance in spreading the word about the Smart911 service. Helping to get citizens signed up can save lives. Please take the time to register and pass the information on to your family and friends. Please visit info.smart911 to register.
