WINTER STORM UPDATE -- HOW YOU CAN HELP: As snow continues to pile up in Villa Park, on-street parking is the major factor preventing effective snow removal. If at possible, please remove your car from the street today. This is important, as streets can be opened for resident and emergency vehicle use as quickly as possible. We also ask residents not to blow snow into the street and place garbage cans a minimum of four feet behind the back of the curb to eliminate or prevent garbage spills. Further snow removal information follows later in this issue.

Villa Park Public Works Department wins award

On January 25, 2018, the Village of Villa Park received the American Public Works Association (APWA) Suburban Branch Public Works Project of the Year for its work in the disaster or emergency construction/repair category of less than $5 million.

The award was bestowed for the Village’s response to an emergency bridge repair on St. Charles Road over Salt Creek. “Our Public Works Department should be congratulated for bringing all parties together on short notice in tackling this emergency situation,” says Villa Park Village President Al Bulthuis. “I’m also quite proud of our staff accomplishing a key public safety goal at minimal cost to taxpayers – less than $70,000 was expended overall.”

Door-to-door sales

Door-to-door business sales in Villa Park

Village of Villa Park ordinances require residential business solicitors to pass a background check as part of the Solicitor’s License Application process. Solicitors must carry the approved permit on their person at all times while conducting business.

Villa Park residents are encouraged to ask solicitors for this permit and note their name prior to any interaction. Before permits are issued, solicitors are instructed that if any complaints are received by the Village about their interactions, their permit will be voided immediately; no further permits will ever be issued to that individual.

If you feel uncomfortable about your interaction with a solicitor, we encourage you to contact the Villa Park Police right away. To review solicitation provisions in Villa Park, please click visit the Solicitors section in the Village Code of Ordinances.

Electronic recycling

Electronics recycling Sat, Feb. 17

Drop off your electronic devices on Sat, February 17 from 9am-Noon at the Village of Villa Park's Public Works Garage, 20 W. Home Ave. Please bring a valid state ID, and note that only one TV per visit is permitted.

In Illinois, it is illegal for electronic devices to be disposed of in a landfill, so the Village partnered with Roy Strom Co. to host electronics recycling events on the third Saturday of every month.

This is a free service for Villa Park residents only. For more details about Villa Park recycling efforts — including what can and cannot be accepted — please visit the Electronics & Recycling web page.

Snow removal procedures

A recap of snow removal procedures

The past week has seen numerous snow events, with more likely on the way! As a reminder, the Village of Villa Park’s Public Works Department is responsible for snow and ice control on all streets within the corporate limits, except for North Avenue, Roosevelt Road, and Route 83, which are maintained by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The Public Works Department’s snow plowing operations start upon the accumulation of the first two inches of snow. No parking is permitted on arterial streets after two or more inches of snowfall. Violators will be subject to ticketing and towing.

We urge motorists to use caution when navigating secondary streets. All residential streets are within two blocks of main arterial streets, which will be plowed and salted for safe travel.

Junior Golf registration

Junior Golf Camp Registration begins on Sat, Feb. 17!

Although today's snowstorm may belie the fact, golf season is just around the corner — and so is registration for the Sugar Creek Golf Course Junior Golf Camp!

Junior Golf registration will take place online only (at Sugar Creek's Program Registration page) beginning Sat, February 17 at 9am. To learn more about the program, visit the golf course's Junior Golf Camp web page.

Coyote

Living with coyotes in Villa Park

Villa Park residents have reported several coyote sightings in their neighborhood during the winter. This is quite normal; as the weather turns colder, coyotes get bolder in their search for food.

Coyotes are a part of our suburban natural landscape — think raccoons, deer, and foxes  and attacks on humans in the U.S. are nearly nonexistent. But residents should take precautions, especially those with small pets.

So, before leaving your furry friend outside unattended, please do a quick read of some precautions you can take on the DuPage Forest Preserve District's Living with Coyotes web page.
