Celebrate the New Cortesi Veterans Memorial Park!

Cortesi Veterans Memorial Park

VILLA PARK – Celebrate the newly renovated Cortesi Veterans Memorial Park during a special dedication ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. on Memorial Day.

The park now boasts a new memorial plaza featuring flag poles and memorial columns honoring each of the service branches. In addition, memorial brick pavers commemorate individuals’ service to the U.S. Armed Forces.

Improvements also include new benches, sidewalks, landscaping, sod, a watering system, a relocated drinking fountain and renovations to the historic Train Depot.
Enjoy a performance by the Willowbrook High School Choir, witness the official park ribbon cutting and pay tribute to veterans who have passed away during a ceremony led by public officials and members of the Villa Park VFW Post 2801 beginning at 11 a.m. Memorial Day 2016.

Cortesi Park is located at the intersection of Cortesi and Kenilworth avenues.

ComEd to Trim Trees in Villa Park


VILLA PARK – You may have noticed ComEd in the area performing vegetation management.

ComEd has mailed notices to customers and property owners in Villa Park who will be affected by vegetation management.Trees and branches that interfere with power lines
can create safety hazards and cause power outages. Preventative tree maintenance helps avoid power outages.

Trained, qualified arborists will trim tree branches and vines that interfere with power lines.

Congratulations to Villa Park's 2016 Senior of the Year!

Villa Park's 2016 Senior of the Year, Sid Bergh (center).

VILLA PARK – The Villa Park Senior Concerns Commission named Charles "Sid" Bergh as the 2016 Senior of the Year during the annual Senior Fair May 5.

Sid is a WWII Navy Veteran, VFW Post 2801 member, Villa Park Lions Club member, former Villa Park Trustee, and a member of the Villa Park Cable Commission.

The Senior Fair, hosted by the Senior Concerns Commission, is an annual free fair that provides services and information for Villa Park's senior community from many participants including the Lions Club, Secretary of State’s office, Osco Drugs and York Township Senior Center.

Villa Park French Market Opens


VILLA PARK – Every Sunday from May through October, the Villa Park French Market brings an array of fresh flowers, produce and handmade goods to the Ardmore Business District, at Ardmore Avenue and Park Boulevard.

Conveniently located on the Illinois Prairie Path, the market invites bicyclists, joggers and families to meander among the variety of vendors for a tasty Sunday treat or other uniquely crafted items. The market is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
on Sundays May through October.

VILLA PARK – Splash into summer from 1 to 3 p.m. June 4 at Jefferson Pool (341 N. Harvard Ave.) for an afternoon of games, dance competitions, swim races and much more!

The kickoff event is free for season pool pass holders. Punch cards will also be accepted, and those without a season pass or punch card can pay at the door.

Lufkin Pool opens June 11 and regular hours begin at Jefferson Pool the same day. Visit www.vprd.org for a complete pool schedule, and information about pool passes and programs.

VILLA PARK – The Economic Development Department hosted a Brokers and Business Owners luncheon at Allegra Banquets April 13, 2016 to highlight the qualities that make Villa Park a hidden gem.

Speakers included Village President Deborah Bullwinkel, Economic Development Director Jan Fiola, District 88 Superintendent Scott Helton and Willowbrook High School Principal Dan Krause, Bryan Gay of Choose DuPage, local business owner Phil Greco and developers Sherwood Blitstein and Rick Goldman.

Villa Park Celebrates Arbor Day


VILLA PARK – The Village of Villa Park, ComEd, DuPage County and the Environmental Concerns Commission joined forces to add trees along Villa Park's Prairie Path in celebration of Arbor Day.

In addition to the six trees planted April 27, ComEd donated an additional 30 trees that are being planted in Villa Park.

Villa Park Startup Wins Comcast Business Award


VILLA PARK – Comcast Business recently named Computer Systems International, Inc., a startup in Villa Park, as a regional winner in the “Innovations 4 Entrepreneurs Contest” (I4E), a national competition that awards more than $440,000 to up-and-coming companies that are leveraging technology to enhance their business.

Each of the regional winners receives a $10,000 cash award and the chance to compete for the opportunity to consult with more than a dozen business experts to fuel growth within their organization. Winners were selected based on essays they submitted regarding how they would use technology to enhance their business.

The winners come from a wide range of geographies, backgrounds and types of businesses. The full list of regional winners and their essays is available here.

Participate in the Villa Park 4th of July Parade



VILLA PARK – Be a part of this year's 4th of July Parade hosted by the Villa Park VFW Post 2801.

This year's theme is "Celebrating 240 Years - United We Stand."

Formation begins at 10:30 a.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church parking lot, on Ardmore Avenue in Villa Park.The Parade route is approximately two miles. The parade will step off at noon, going West on Central to Harvard, South on Harvard to Madison, East on Madison to Summit, North on Summit to Park, and West on Park to Ardmore for dispersal.

DuPage River Sweep

Register Now for the DuPage River Sweep May 21


Join the fun of the DuPage River Sweep while enjoying the outdoors on the morning of Saturday, May 21. Make a difference in the quality of water and in the appearance of waterways in your community.

Volunteers are needed Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to noon to help remove trash and debris as well as to restore areas near streams of the DuPage River and its tributaries. Since 1991 more than 10,800 volunteers have participated in this annual clean-up and have removed nearly 3,252 tons of trash, but each year there’s always more to clean! Everyone is welcome!

Mark Your Calendars: Cop on a Rooftop is May 20

Cop On A Rooftop 2015

VILLA PARK – Visit Dunkin’ Donuts at Johnson’s Lighthouse, 1 W. St. Charles Road in Villa Park between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m. May 20 for Cop on a Rooftop.

The annual event raises funds for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois. Each year, Villa Park officers participate in several fundraisers to support Special Olympics Illinois. The Villa Park Police Department received an award for its outstanding financial support of the 2015 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. The Department raised $6,556.82 for the 2015 Torch Run.

The Summerfest Commission meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Iowa Community Center, 338 N. Iowa Ave.

Make A Wish Come True


VILLA PARK – The Villa Park VFW Post 2801 is raising funds to help two children through Make-A-Wish Illinois. The nonprofit grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. The VFW’s goal is to help Brandon, 2, from Villa Park visit Disney World in August and Jessica, 15, from Downers Grove go on a South African Safari.

VILLA PARK – The Environmental Concerns Commission presented Bill Karges with the Green Champion award plaque at the May 9 Village Board Meeting.

Village to Host Rental Property Owners Meeting


VILLA PARK – On June 7, 2016 at 6 p.m. the Village of Villa Park will host an informational meeting for the owners of residential rental property within the Village. The meeting will take place at the Villa Park Village Hall located at 20 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Representatives from the Police Department, Fire Department and Community Development will be present to discuss ordinances pertaining to rental property, along with the Crime Free Lease Addendum that is required for all rental properties.

Additionally, Mark Madorin from the National Tenant Network will present information on conducting background checks and provide several tips for successful resident screening.

Mama Squash Market to Host Annual Owner Meeting


VILLA PARK – Learn about Mama Squash Market, a consumer cooperative grocery store coming to Villa Park, IL. Mama Squash board members plan to partner with local producers of high quality, sustainably and ethically produced food and rebuild connections between food producers and consumers.

Villa Park's Community Pride Commission is actively seeking members to help fulfill its mission to advise the Village President and Board of Trustees on matters relating to the overall image of the Village, including physical beautification, public relations and coordination and promotion of volunteers and volunteerism within the Village.

The Villa Park Environmental Concerns Commission is also seeking commissioners to fulfill its mission to advise the President and Board of Trustees on matters relating to the preservation, protection and improvement of the environment, including the quality of land, air and water.
