Memorial Day 2020

Memorial Day

We are saddened to report that the Villa Park VFW Post 2801 has informed the Village that they have cancelled their Memorial Day Ceremony and their Independence Day Parade.

Social distancing requirements are preventing people from gathering to celebrate Memorial Day, so DuPage County has developed a website for residents to virtually gather and share stories and photos to honor the memories of fallen heroes. With an honor post, one can place the hometown location of the loved one or friend, a photo and a written tribute.

We encourage Villa Park residents to share their loved ones story. To submit a post click here.

2020 Swim Season

At this time, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) does not recommend visiting water parks, water playgrounds and/or spas. In adherence to these recommendations, surrounding communities such as Elmhurst Park District, Wood Dale Park District, Carol Stream Park District, and Lombard Park District have made the difficult decision to close their waterparks for the season. Furthermore, the DuPage Swim and Dive Conference has cancelled their 2020 swim season due to a lack of open swimming facilities in their conference.

The Village of Villa Park continues to monitor information and waits for additional guidance from the Governor, CDC and Illinois Department of Public Health. Due to the Governor’s social distancing requirements and restrictions on the gathering of groups larger than 10, the Village has made the very difficult decision to keep Jefferson Pool closed for the 2020 season. These are unprecedented times and this decision was not made without extensive thought and analysis.

It is hard to imagine summer without going to the pool; however, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community, visitors and staff must take priority. We thank all of our residents, staff and visitors for their understanding as we face these uncharted waters, united in hope for a healthier future.

Alert

Scam of the Week

Due to the Coronavirus crisis, unemployment numbers have skyrocketed. As usual, scammers are taking advantage of these hard times and are sending out phony work-from-home opportunities. Typically, these phishing emails contain grammar mistakes and offer minimal details about the hiring company and the job requirements. But the scammers still manage to grab your attention because the job opportunity includes a great paycheck.

Once accepted, these scammers ease the victim into their new "job", by asking them to complete basic errands, but eventually they’re given the task of transferring funds from one account to another. Typically, these are stolen funds and the unsuspecting "employee" is being used as a money mule. Even though these victims are unaware of the crime they are committing, they can still face hefty fines and prison time. If you feel you have been solicited to be a money mule, contact the Villa Park Police Department.

Villa Park's response rate is currently 72.9%.  The results of the 2020 Census will help determine how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding flow into communities every year for the next decade.
