Following notice from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) that the rating of the St. Charles Road Bridge over Salt Creek has been lowered, a weight restriction of 15 tons max has taken effect. The new limit does not restrict ambulances from using the bridge; however, it does impact PACE Bus's Route 313 through Villa Park, garbage trucks, fire trucks, school buses and other large vehicles.
On Monday, August 14th, the Village Board approved proceeding with a temporary repair of the bridge which will assist maintaining the 15 ton weight limit until the bridge is reconstructed. There will be lane reconfigurations taking place the week of September 5th to allow for emergency work on the bridge. Advanced warning changeable message boards will be installed the week of August 28th for this lane reconfiguration that is estimated to be in effect for approximately two months.
