Spring Sweep 2019
Looking to properly recycle items you have found while cleaning out your home this spring?
The Community Pride and Environmental Concerns Commissions are teaming up to bring our community the first Villa Park Spring Sweep recycling and shredding event.
When: Saturday, May 18, 2019
Time: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Traffic for the event will flow down Home Ave., entering at the intersection of Harvard Ave. and Home Ave., and exiting towards Ardmore Ave. (Use 42 W. Home Ave. as a general starting point).
FREE to Villa Park residents, fee will apply for paint recycling. Non-residents are welcome, but fee will apply for document shredding and electronics ($35 inclusive per person), as well as paint recycling (see below).
Volunteers will work to collect and sort all items straight from your car to ensure an easy and safe drop off. Simply load your car, drive to the entrance of the event and volunteers will direct you from there.

- Document Shredding (RESIDENTIAL ONLY, maximum 3 bankers-size boxes)

Drop off is drive through - participants are asked to stay in their cars while volunteers unload recyclables. Please note that no stains, solvents, cleaning products or pesticides will be accepted.
Please box or bag each type of recyclable separately so items can be easily removed from your car. Stations will be set up in the order below, so please load your car accordingly. A guide found here can be printed for easy reference while packing your vehicle.
Station 1 - Working Bikes
Adult bikes in reparable condition; gently used kids bikes.
Station 2 - scarce
New, used or damaged books of all kinds. Retail CD's, DVD's and LP's.
Station 3 - simply recycling
Used clothing and shoes in any condition, misc. housewares and small appliances in working condition.
Station 4 - Restore
Tools, hardware and building materials in good condition.
Station 5 - VP fire department
Wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and canes.
Station 6 - scrap metal
Scrap steel, aluminum and copper, empty propane canisters and other scrap metal. NO appliances or water heaters.
Station 7 - epaint
Latex and oil-based paints/stains will be accepted. Fee based service. See "Fees" section below for more information.
Station 8 - interstate batteries
Car, marine and sump pump batteries.
Station 9 - VP Lions club
Used eyeglasses, hearing aids, ink cartridges, cell phones and chargers, metal (house) keys, soda/pop tabs, decorative lighting strings/wires (holiday lights).
Station 10 - roy strom
Corrugated cardboard, broken down flat (NO CHIPBOARD). Paper for recycling - not shredding.
Station 11 - vfw
Old, tattered and faded American flags.
Station 12 - PA Crimson
Full and discarded fire extinguishers.
Station 13 - Village of villa park
Computers (desktop, laptop, tablets), monitors, printers, mice, cables, keyboards, zip drives, scanners, fax machines, shredders, DVD/CD players, DVR's, MP3 players, VHS players, video game consoles, digital cameras, camcorders, TV (no wood), converter boxes, cable/satellite receivers, cell phones, answering machines, calculators and stereo equipment.
Station 14 - Document shredding
3 banker box limit per household. Non-resident fee for electronics & shred will be $35.
Non-residents will be charged a flat $35 fee for electronics recycling.
